  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    During the 20th century Angus & Robertson Limited became one of Australia's most important bookselling and book-publishing firms. Originally a bookshop founded by David Angus in 1884, it began publishing in 1888 under the guidance of George Robertson.
    C.E.W. Bean was Official War Correspondent for the Australian Commonwealth Divisional Headquarters, 1st Australian Imperial Force, 1914-1919. In 1919 he began 'The Official History of Australia in the War of 1914-1918', published by Angus & Robertson. The first two volumes were published in 1921 and 1924. He also wrote another four volumes and edited the remaining six volumes, the last of which was published in 1942.
