    Henry Lawson, poet and short-story writer, was born at Grenfell, N.S.W. in 1867. His poems were first published in The Bulletin in 1887 and a short story was published in 1888. Lawson died in Sydney in 1922.
    Louisa Lawson (1848-1920) was the mother of Henry Lawson. She was a leading figure in republican and women's movements and in 1888 founded the 'Dawn', the first Australian feminist journal.

    Original typescript, with manuscript annotations and corrections, of Chaplin's account of the books, letters and manuscripts of Louisa and Henry Lawson in his collection. Published as 'Studies in Bibliography' No. 21 in 1974.
  • General note

    This volume was written and bound by the Sydney collector Harry F. Chaplin. The bookplate of Geoffrey Cains, a subsequent owner, is adhered to the inside front cover.
