  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Alfred George Stephens (1865-1933) joined The Bulletin in 1894 and two years later became editor of its literary section, The Red Page. In 1906 he left The Bulletin to become a freelance writer, literary agent, publisher and editor of his own journal, The Bookfellow. He greatly influenced the development of Australian literature, encouraging writers as well as editing and criticising their work.
Victor Daley was a popular lyric poet who contributed to the Bulletin and other journals during the 1880s and 1890s. He published his first book of verse, At Dawn & Dusk, in 1898. After his early death from tuberculosis in 1905 several more volumes of his poetry were published.
