  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Pauline Armstrong (1928-2001) was a businesswomen, political activist and biographer. Born in Camberwell, Victoria, the eldest child of Charlotte and Arthur Watkin. Her mother and grandmother were Labor Party members, who become disenchanted and joined the Communist Party.

    In 1949 Pauline became secretary to Cedric Ralph, a lawyer who managed the Communist Party representation at the Royal Commission into its activities in 1949-1950.

    Pauline set up a small business - CAC Duplicating and Offset Printers, employed mainly mothers and only women.

    She was passionately involved in the Save Our Sons Movement during the Vietnam War, and made a definitive study of this for her Masters thesis.
