    Drawings - 1 watercolour on ivory miniature encased in oval shaped gold frame with incised decorative inner border around glass front. The back of the frame is gold and deeply set. At the centre top is a loop for hanging. - 6.9 x 5.3 cm. portrait, inside frame (sight) - 8.5 x 7 cm. (frame), 0.6 cm. (loop)
  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Edward Macarthur, soldier, was the eldest son of John and Elizabeth Macarthur. He participated in the disposition of Governor Bligh in 1808, served as Lieutanant in the 39th Regiment in Wellington's campaigns of 1812-1814, and whilst in London advocated for increased emigation to Australia. -- Reference: Australian Dictionary of Biography.     The male in this portrait is dressed in a double breasted black wool jacket, black satin waistcoast with stand collar, a white shirt with a wing-collar, and a jabot (pleated or gauffered) ruffle at neckline.
