    John Hutchin was born in 1857 at North Frodingham, near Driffield, Yorkshire. After studying at Rotherham College, he was ordained in 1882, and appointed and sailed to Rarotonga in the same year.     Commentary on missionary work in the South Seas that is divided between five missionary societies in Polynesia, with particular focus on the Hervey Island Group (Cook Islands). Includes physical description and vegetation of Mangaia; habits, character, and language of the natives in Eastern Polynesia; trade and commerce; spirituality; code of laws; and nature missionary work.
