  • General note

It is believed that George Lambert took this cast or impression from a mould of Henry Lawson's hand in the possession of Mrs. Dorothy Ellesmere Paul in 1929-1930. Lambert undertook this "squeeze" during his work for the Lawson Memorial, Eurunderee, N.S.W. that was completed prior to his death in 1930 (see notes compiled by I.F. McLaren in 1979, Locn. no. PXn 578 Mitchell Library).
A newspaper cutting from the Sunday Guardian, dated 16 Aug. 1931, states that six copies of Henry Lawson's hand were made, one of which was broken (see Locn no. QA 821/L425.1 vol. 31 Mitchell Library).
Although this item is said to have entered the Mitchell Library prior to 1945, a PXn 578 note states that the donor, Walter Stone, obtained the cast from a niece of Mrs Lucy Cassidy after the latter's death (which occurred after 1950 as Mrs Cassidy donated Henry Lawson material to the Library in that year).
