Marie Rignold (nee Henderson), comic actress, married actor and theatre manager George Rignold in 1865. After touring North America the couple came to Australia in 1876 where Rignold played his most famous role as Henry V. Following further tours in England, America and Australasia they settled in Sydney. In 1887 Rignold opened Her Majesty's Theatre with Henry V which played there for eight years. He had a major success with Joseph of Canaan in 1895. Marie Rignold died in 1902. - Scope and ContentAutograph book, inscribed on front endpaper 'Marie Rignold, Boston, December 11th 1875'. The book includes autographs of theatre personalities and letters. Most of the letters are addressed to George Rignold. Correspondents include fans of Rignold's performances, and George Augustus Sala who clashed with Rignold over financial arrangements for his (Sala's) lecture tour of Australasia in 1885. The book also includes illustrations by Watts Phillips, ca. 1916.
