    17 Jan. 1843; Brierly introduces volume with note about account of his trips, his thoughts on bush life, natives, and sketches.
    13 Dec. 1842 - 4 Jan. 1843; Journal traces Brierly's passage on board steamer headed for Hobart Town, and his arrival at Twofold Bay, with emphasis on his subsequent excursions to the Snowy Mountains region. Topics include vegetation, wildlife, weather conditions, and Indigenous people encountered. Accompanying the journal entries are drawings with descriptions.

  • General note

    The volume contains two numbering sequences. The "List of Illustrations" that appears on the reverse of the front endpaper cites drawing number and original pagination. The titles in this list sometimes differ from captions beneath individual drawings.
    Three drawings are executed over two double pages.
    Pages bear watermark, "Superfine 183[7?]".
    Some pages are blank.
    The volume was bound into new covers at an unknown date. Page 1a is not original and bears a non-contemporaneous label, auction tag "20", and a State Library of NSW call number label.
    "D.S. Mitchell" signature on front endpaper.
