In 1840 Marshall Waller Clifton was appointed chief commissioner of the Western Australian Land Company's planned settlement at Australind, now a suburb of Bunbury.The company virtually ceased operations in 1843 and Clifton was retrenched. He was a member of the W.A. Legislative Council from 1851 to 1858. - Scope and ContentAutograph letter signed by Marshall Waller Clifton to J.W. Clifton expresses his disappointment at not receiving the governorship of the Colony of Western Australia, and discusses general conditions of administration in the colony.
