  George Fife Angas, merchant and banker, formed the South Australian Company in 1836. Angas equipped several ships to go to South Australia, recruited labourers and promoted the interests of the new settlement. In 1851 he went to the colony, settling at Lindsay Park near Angaston where he died in 1879.
  George French Angas, painter, lithographer and naturalist, was the eldest son of George Fife Angas. During his well-travelled life he published many illustrated works including 'South Australia Illustrated' (1846) and 'Savage Life and Scenes in Australia and New Zealand' (1847). Angas arrived in Adelaide from England in 1844, later moving to Sydney where held a position at the Australian Museum from 1853 to 1859. He returned to England in 1863 where he continued to contribute to the science of conchology.
