  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    John Clarkson Maddison (1921-1982), solicitor and parliamentarian, was born at Chatswood, Sydney, son of George and Frances Maddison. He was educated at Sydney Grammar School and the University of Sydney where he graduated Bachelor of Arts (1942) and Bachelor of Laws (1948). Maddison served in the 2nd AIF between 1941 and 1945 in Borneo and the Philippines. He was admitted as a solicitor in 1948 and as a barrister in 1975. Maddison was elected the Liberal Party member of the NSW Legislative Assembly for the seats of Hornsby (1962-1963) and Kuringai (1973-1980). Maddison was appointed Minister of Justice (1965-1976) and Attorney General (1975-1976).
