  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Imre Viktor Barcs (1905-1990) worked as a journalist in Hungary and Italy before coming to Sydney in 1939 and freelancing for the "Daily Telegraph" over the byline Emery Barcs. Interned as an alien, he spent time in camps in Liverpool, NSW and Tatura, Vic. He was released in February 1942 and joined the Australian Citizen Military Forces until medically discharged in 1944. Barcs then returned to the "Daily Telegraph", specialising in writing on foreign affairs. He also broadcast commentaries on the news for the Australian Broadcasting Commission

    The papers include: diaries; correspondence, mainly with his wife and other relatives; chronological files of press cuttings; notebooks; and drafts of novels, stories, plays and news commentaries
