Babcock and Wilcox Ltd was registered as a British Company in 1891 in order to acquire the business of water-tube boiler manufacturers that had been established in Glasgow by the Babcock and Wilcox Company of America. Branch offices had been opened in Sydney and Melbourne in 1886. Babcock and Wilcox Australia was incorporated in 1948 and became a public company in 1967. The principal operating company of the Babcock Australia Group is now Babcock Australia Limited
