Watkin Tench arrived in Sydney with the First Fleet in 1788 in charge of a detachment of Marines. He left Australia in 1791 and his daily journal formed the basis for two publications in 1789 and 1793 - Scope and ContentI. Letters to J.S. Bedford from Sara Bedford, 9 Aug. 1819, and from Watkin Tench, 6 Apr. 1820 and 30 May 1833.
