    Regimental Sergeant Major Horace Arthur Leslie Gray, a clerk of Leichhardt, Sydney enlisted for the Boer War in May 1903, aged 18. He listed his occupation as Rotary Machinist (printing) when he re-enlisted in the 19th Battalion, Feb. 1915. He served in Egypt, Gallipoli and France and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for conspicuous gallantry at Pozieres. He was killed by a sniper at Fleurs while he was talking to General Holmes, pointing out the position of the snipers, 10 Nov. 1916
