After several unsuccessful attempts to form a regular government in Fiji, a formal convention of all races adopted a constitution leading to the establishment of the Cakobau government in June, 1871. This government broke down and was succeeded by the Ad-Interim Government, March-October 1874, and following the deed of cession to Great Britain, 10 October 1874, by the Provisional Government. In September 1875 the Fiji Islands were erected into a separate British Colony

The volumes were allocated shelf numbers in the order in which they were received in the Mitchell Library, so that related volumes are not always grouped together on the shelf
