Te Puea Herangi, a Maori chieftainess of the Waikato tribe, was interested in achieving better relations with N.Z. Govt. for her people. She established a model village, encouraged modern farming methods and improved living conditions. She & her secretary, Alex McKay, were friendly with Ramsden, journalist and author, also interested in Maori welfare - Scope and ContentLetters to Eric Ramsden from Princess Te Puea Herangi and Alex McKay, 1930-1942. The letters give accounts of Te Puea's work for the Maori people, particularily at Ngaruawahia, Waikato province
