Captain Watson Augustus Steel received the first land grant at Rockley, N.S.W. 1829. His son, W. A. Steel II, married the daughter of Julia Gertrude Stewart who came to Australia as a governess in 1850. Miss G. M. A. and Mr. C. A. Cardew, donors of the papers, are grandchildren of this marriage
