Francis Beddek arrived at Sydney on December 29, 1827 and by the end of 1828 was established as a solicitor in Windsor. Richard Coley, another English solicitor, who had practised in Hong Kong, was admitted to practice in N.S.W. in 1844. He went into partnership with Beddek, who died in 1852. The legal firm of John J. Paine Ross and Co. are the successors to the practice - Scope and ContentIncludes Francis Beddek's own papers 1829-1845 and contain records of many early families of the Windsor district, such as Essy, Tebbutt, Buttsworth, Bowd, Ancel and Cox from the 1830's onward; a large collection relating to the Palmer family and their relations the Campbell family including John Palmer's will, 1822, a rent roll 1831-1843 for George Thomas Palmer's farms, and letters from G. T. Palmer while a student at Cambridge in 1852, day books 1889-1967, letter books 1891-1921, clients documents 1945-1954 with an index, and miscellaneous and financial records
