    J. W. Wilson was the chief engineer, the captain, Joseph Wilson. After a naval court of enquiry at the Island of Ascension, on the voyage out, the captain was suspended from his command and the chief officer appointed to succeed him. The Kembla belonged to the Illawarra Steam Navigation Company
