    Came to W.A. 1841, taking up land at York. He left to join the Royal Navy, 1845, returning in 1854 to become Superintendent of Convicts. He died 1879
  • Scope and Content
    Corrected typescript copy: 'Diary and Journal of the Eastern Exploration Expedition Made in the Year 1863 under the leadership of Henry Maxwell Lefroy.' The volume is an account, 3 Apr. - 31 July 1863, of the expedition carried out under the auspices of the Colonial Government and the York Agricultural Society, for the purpose of exploring the eastern interior of Western Australia, in order that new districts suitable for sheep farming might be discovered. The areas covered are now referred to as the Yilgarn, Coolgardie, Merredin and Johnston Lake districts.
