  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Members of the Corlis family emigrated from Ireland during the potato famine and settled in the Capertee Valley, north of Lithgow, in 1841. William Corlis acquired the 'Bandanora' property, near Capertree, in 1851, establishing a large sheep grazing property, which was later taken over by his son, William Charles.
  • Scope and Content
    The collection contains papers of the Corlis family and business records of their property 'Bandanora' from 1852 to 1962, including notebooks, ledgers and other financial records, correspondence and an architectural plan of the homestead.

    Ten notebooks of various sizes, containing shearing and lambing statistics, expenses including wages, shopping lists, appointments, addresses, 1852-1868, 1886-1914, 1924-1935, 1941-1961. Some early notebooks are inscribed ‘William Corlis, Bandanora’

    Two ledgers, inscribed on cover ‘William Corlis, Bandanora’, 1860-1888, 1874-1881. An index to the 1860-1888 ledger is reproduced below, following the content list.

    Rations sent to D. Kerr for 20 weeks from January 20th 1877. Will be due for rations again June 9th 1877.
