Edward John Dunn (1844-1937) was born in England. He came to Australia in 1849 where he received his education. He trained as a geologist and in 1871 was appointed government geologist for Cape Colony, South Africa. From 1873 to 1885 he was in England. He returned to Australia in 1886, and with Melbourne as his base worked as a consulting geologist throughout the country and in New Caledonia. In 1904 he was appointed director of the Geological Survey in the Victorian Dept. of Mines and Water Supply. He retired in 1912 but continued to work as a consulting geologist for many years. He published several books including Geology of Gold (1929) and The Bushman (1931). - Scope and ContentIncludes 20 field books, mainly relating to Victoria, articles, a small amount of correspondence, newscuttings and maps
