    J. Farrell poet and journalist, was brought to Victoria by his parents in 1852. He was a regular contributor to the Bulletin and Daily Telegraph. His daughter, Olivia Maude, later Mrs Macinante tried unsuccessfully to have a biography written of her father

    These papers were collected and annotated by O. M. Macinante Correspondence, 1887-1960. Correspondents include Julian Ashton, 1904, Eliza Farrell, 1903-1904, Dame Mary Gilmore, 1904-1952, O. M. Macinante, 1904-1960, Eris O'Brien, 1948, 1960, Roderic Quinn, 1904, James Ryan, c.1889-1904, Rose Scott, 1897-1904, Bertram Stevens, 1906. Works by J. Farrell, with genealogical information, notes re J. Farrell by i.a., Dame Mary Gilmore, 1940, 1951 and Eris O'Brien, and miscellaneous papers including 'Henry Lawson's Hat', by M. Gilmore, 1951, written on reverse of letters received 1951; notebook kept by J. Farrell, 1891, and scrap books, 1882-1963, mainly of reviews, obituaries and newscuttings.
