R.T. Moodie, 1822-1899, sea captain, born Montrose, Scotland, came to Australia in 1848 in command of the ship Dorothy. In 1854, with his wife and family he brought S.S. City of Sydney to Australia for the Australian Steam Navigation Company, commanding the ship until she was wrecked at Green Cape, N.S.W., in 1862. In 1858 he was in Rockhampton, Queensland, as the Company's representative during the Canoona gold rush and in 1859 took troops to Taranaki on the outbreak of the 2nd Maori War, resigning from the Company in 1863 - Scope and ContentProvides a resume of his career up to the time of writing, then detailed reminiscences finishing with a description of the wreck of the S.S. City of Sydney, 1862. The typed transcript has additional material as addenda, including copy of his obituary from the Sydney Morning Herald, 1899
