    In 1918 several unions amalgamated to form the Australian Saddlery and Leather Workers Trades Employees' Federation, changing the name to the Australian Saddlery Sail and Canvas Workers' Trades Employees Federation in 1922, to the Australian Saddlery Leather Sail Canvas Tanning Leather Dressing and Allied Workers Trades Employees Federation in 1924 and to the Australian Leather and Allied Trades Employees Federation in 1945. Trades unions which amalgamated include the Tanners, Curriers and Leather Dressers Union of New South Wales, the Botany branch of which was formed in 1902, and was by 1918 known as the Federated Tanners and Leather Dressers Union of Australia, New South Wales Branch, becoming in 1931 the Amalgamated Tanners, Leather Dressers, Furriers, Glue, Gelatine and Allied Trades Employees' Federation (N.S.W. Branch); the New South Wales Saddle and Harness Makers Union, known also at different periods as the N.S.W. Saddle and Harness Makers Trade Society Industrial Union of Employees and the Saddle and Harness Makers of New South Wales Trade Society, which voted to amalgamate in Dec. 1917, becoming the Australian Saddlery Trades Employees Federation - N.S.W. Branch; and the Collar Makers and Bag Portmanteaux and Fancy Leather Workers
