  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    James Badgery (ca.1764-1827) arrived in NSW in 1799 and began raising cattle. He and his son Henry (b.1803), explored much of the Kangaroo Valley area before settling at Bega. Henry's sons from his first marriage settled in Monaro region. His sons from his second marriage settled around the Exeter region on various properties of their father's.
    Henry Septimus Badgery (1840-1917), stock and station agent and parliamentarian, was the son of Henry Badgery and his wife Mary Ann, nee Reilley. Henry Septimus established the firm of Pitt, Son & Badgery with Robert Pitt. Henry Septimus Badgery was elected a member of the NSW Legislative Assembly for East Maitland (1878-1880) and for Monaro (1880-1885). He was Secretary for Public Works (1885).
    Francis Arthur Badgery (1852-1915), farmer and grazier and parliamentarian, was the son of Henry and Mary Ann, nee Reilley. Francis, known as Frank, was elected a member of the NSW Legislative Assembly in the seat of Wollondilly (1913-1915).
