G. A. Kopsch, 1837-1898 arrived in Adelaide, 1852, was appointed to the Victorian Post Office, 1859 and became chief mechanician to Sydney Post Office, 1876. He gave the first exhibition of electric lighting in the colonies, 1868 and constructed the transmitter and receiver for the first experimental telephone line 1877. C. F. G. Kopsch, 1866-1932, introduced the first incandescent light to Sydney, 1882 and supplied and fitted the first 300 telephones in Sydney. For 20 years he was nautical optician to the Royal Navy, Sydney
