Sir Ralph Darling was Governor of New South Wales and Tasmania 1825-1831. His wife, Eliza, was the daughter of Colonel John Dumaresq whose sons, Henry and William, held various offices under Darling's administration, both remaining after Darling's departure. - Scope and ContentMainly letters from Darling to Lady Darling and from Lady Darling to her mother and also letters from Lady Darling to her husband, children, and brother and from Sir Henry Hardinge to Darling. Letters centre on the period during Darling's law suit against Robert Robison and the enquiry by the select committee of parliament into Darling's conduct in New South Wales. Also included are comments on Sydney life and on British politics and family matters.
