    The Carysfort, combining sail and steam, belonged to the squadron accompanying H.M.S. Bacchante, and the cruise is the one on which Prince Albert Victor and the Prince of Wales visited Australia. Montague E. Browning was a midshipman on the Invincible and transferred to the Carysfort on 24 Sep. 1880

    The log was kept on board H.M.S. Invincible and H.M.S. Carysfort, commanded by Captains E. R. Fremantle C.B., C.M.G., and H. F. Stephensen, C.B. It provides a daily account of shipboard activity with narrative segments dealing with i.a. Madeira; St Vincent island, Cape Verde Islands; Montevideo; Falkland Islands; Cape Town and surrounding area including remarks on ostrich farming, Port Phillip area, Brisbane area and Fiji Islands
