The Alexander Royal Black Preceptory, no. 534, now disbanded, was opened as the Ryde Royal Black Preceptory at the Ryde Oddfellows Hall 31 Mar. 1894. The name was changed to Alexander Royal Black Preceptory 12 May 1894, then to William Alexander Royal Black Preceptory 14 Aug. 1897. After Dec, 1898 William was dropped from usage and the full name appears to have never been used again.

On 11 Sep. 1901, the meetings were transferred to the Protestant Hall, Dundas. This preceptory was subordinate to the Provincial Grand Black Chapter of New South Wales which was established in 1871 under the Grand Black Chapter of Ireland
