The Association of Accountants of Australia was incorporated in 1910. In 1952 the Commonwealth Institute of Accountants and the Federal Institute of Accountants amalgamated to form the Australian Society of Accountants, and the Association of Accountants of Australia joined the same year

The records fall into four groups. (I) The Association of Accountants of Australia records consist of minutes (AGM'S, 1910-1953; general council meetings, 1934-1955; council meetings, 1910-1953) and annual reports, 1928-1952. (II) The Commonwealth Institute of Accountants records consist of minutes of the Incorporated Institute of Accountants of Victoria, N.S.W. Branch, 1910-1913, 1918-1921; Commonwealth Institute of Accountants (N.S.W. Branch) council minutes, 1922-1952; minutes of the A.G.M. (1921-1929) and council (1926-1929) of the Institute of Public Accountants of Australasia; and minutes of council meetings of the Institute of Incorporated Accountants of New South Wales, 1908-1930. (III) Federal Institute of Accountants, N.S.W. Division records comprise minutes of A.G.M.s 1943-1952 and minutes of State Board meetings, 1922-1952. (IV) The Australasian Institute of Cost Accountants records are minutes of N.S.W. Council meetings from 1947 to 1955
