Florence Earle Hooper, 1870-1967, was born at Balmain, N.S.W. but spent some years of her childhood at Emu Plains. She obtained the Diploma in the Theory and Practice of Education at Cambridge in 1898 and, on her return to Sydney, opened the Cambridge School in Phillip Street, later moving it to Hunters Hill
