Richard Fitzgerald, 1772 - 1840, convict, public servant and settler, was transported to New South Wales in 1791. He had some knowledge of agriculture and successive governors gave him increasing responsibilities connected with the public farms. In time he became a close friend of Governor and Mrs Macquarie, and when they returned to England in 1822, he became their agent in Australia. - Scope and ContentMainly correspondence, 1827 - 1834, between Fitzgerald and Mrs E. H. Macquarie over business matters. Contains references to a number of eminent colonists including William Redfern and Major Henry Antill, and to Lachlan Macquarie the younger. Also includes letter from Lachlan MacQuarie to Fitzgerald, 10 Oct. 1823, copy of letter from Fitzgerald to Lachlan Macquarie the younger, 23 Nov. 1835 and 'Power of Attorney to receive Mrs Macquarie's shares in the Bank Stock of New South Wales and the dividends thereon', granted to Antill and Fitzgerald, 6 Feb. 1822
