  Sapper E. de Mouncey, a clerk telegraphist of Perth, Western Australia, was born in Ballarat, Victoria. He was aged 42 when he enlisted and embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A68 Anchises, 8 August 1917. He served with the 16th Reinforcements of the 4th Divisional Signallers in France and Belgium, 1917-1918. He returned to Australia Nov. 1918 and was discharged as medically unfit.
• Scope and Content
  Part I was mainly written on board H.M.A.T. Anchises, describing voyage to England via Panama Canal, July-Sep. 1917. Part II was written on board S.S. Runic on return voyage from England to Fremantle, Western Australia, Sep.-Nov. 1918.
  Includes retrospective account of experiences in France and Belgium ca. Oct. 1917 - June 1918, when he was evacuated from the firing line suffering from shell shock and experiences in England, Aug.- Sep. 1918 following treatment in French hospitals
