  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    James Marshall, clerk of Darlinghurst, Sydney, NSW embarked on board HMAT A47 Mashobra at the age of 18, 14 Sept. 1916 and served as a signaller with the 53rd Battalion, 5th Reinforcement in France, Dec. 1916-1918, and in Belgium, 1917-1918. He was hospitalised with trench fever in July 1917. He attended German speaking school in the field, June 1918 and worked with an Intelligence Section. After the Armistice he was billeted in Belgium. He embarked from Devonport 2 June 1919 on the Beltana, arriving back in Australia 19 July 1919
