    R. J. Wearne, stock and station agent, Bingara, N.S.W., was a brother of Walter Ernest Wearne, M.L.A. While serving as a volunteer during the 1917 transport strike, he shot a unionist, Mervyn Flannigan, but was acquitted of the charge of murder. Another Bingara agent, A. W. H. Bull, organised a subscription among agents throughout New South Wales to pay Wearne's legal expenses
