    Corporal Harold Mercer, a journalist of Sydney, New South Wales, was born in Brisbane, Queensland and enlisted in Sydney 12 Apr. 1917 aged 35. He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A74 Marathon, 10 May 1917 and served with the 1st Battalion in France. He returned to Australia on the Karoa, May 1919
