  • Scope and Content
    Journal, 10 July 1846-19 Aug. 1847, recounting Martin's voyage in H.M.S. Grampus from Lima to Hawaii to meet Sir George Seymour and from there to Tahiti. The author gives detailed informal accounts of Hawaii and its administrator and of the political climate in Hawaii and Tahiti. Martin had discussions with the French governor, M. Bruat, in Papeete and with Queen Pomare at Raiatea Is. Official papers and correspondence, 1843-1847, of Sir George Seymour, M. Bruat and the French Navy, Queen Pomare and Capt.
