  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    George Cox (1795-1868), was born in England, son of William Cox (1764-1837) and his wife Rebecca. He travelled to Australia with his family in 1799 when his father, William, was commissioned a lieutenant in the NSW Corps. George Cox was the owner of 'Winbourne', Mulgoa, a pastoral property and vineyard. His eldest son, George Henry Cox (1824-1901), owned 'Burrundulla', Mudgee and was a member of the NSW Legislative Assembly (1856-1859) and the NSW Legislative Council (1863-1901).
  • Scope and Content
    1846-1867; Correspondence, being ms. letters sent to his sons, mainly George Henry Cox; including some also addressed to Archy; and a letter received (1) by George Cox from J. Cracroft Wilson, 1858. The letters sent mainly concern pastoral activities at 'Winbourne' with some reference to 'Burrundulla' and to family matters. (Call No.: CY 2590)
