    George Ranken (1793-1883), was born at Ayrshire, Scotland, and arrived at Hobart Town 1821 on the 'Lusitania'. He then travelled to Sydney in 1822 and was granted land at Jedburgh on the Macquarie River in 1823. He named his property 'Kelloshiel' and in 1832 acquired from Thomas Icely the adjoining property, 'Saltram'. He later acquired 'Burly Jacky' near Woodstock. In 1863 Ranken's third son, James Australia Ranken (1825-1909), married Emma Chatfield Macarthur, daughter of John Francis Macarthur.
