  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Captain Brian Colden Antill Pockley and Lieutenant John Graham Antill Pockley were the sons of Dr. Antill Francis Pockley.
    Brian Colden Antill Pockley, medical practitioner of North Sydney, was appointed Captain in the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force, 18 Aug. 1914. He was the first Australian officer to be killed in action during World War I, when going to the aid of W.G.V. Williams, who became the first Australian serviceman to die, at Bita Paka, Rabaul 11 Sept. 1914.
    John Graham Antill Pockley, farmer and grazier of Yarran Springs, N.S.W., embarked from Sydney on the Anchises 24 Jan. 1917 and served with the 63rd and the 33rd battalion in France where he was killed in action, 30 Mar.1918
