  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The Davis Sporting Collection Part II was largely compiled by John Corbett Davis who was editor of The Referee, The Arrow & The Sunday Times from 1912 to 1939. Other compilers were his brother Joseph J. Davis and his son Vincent C. Davis.
  • Scope and Content
    This collection mainly comprises letters received by J.C. Davis as editor of the Referee together with a few copies of letters sent.
    CORRESPONDENCE FILES PART 1 - Cricket, rugby union, rugby league, swimming, athletics, tennis etc. Arranged alphabetically by name of correspondent.
    1916-1947; B-E. Correspondents include: Don Bradman (1933-39), Herbert Collins (1916-19), Jack Crawford (1935), Joe Darling (1937), H.V. Evatt (1937) and Mary Davis (1916) concerning the Mitchell Library's purchase of books belonging to her late husband, J. J. Davis . (Call No.: MLMSS 7209/1)
