    This book of hours was produced in the workshop of Jean Colombe of Bourges.
  • Scope and Content
    Text: Latin, with calendar in French. Includes calendar; gospel sequences; O intemerata; Hours of the Virgin; seasonal variations; Hours of the Cross; Hours of the Holy Ghost; penitential psalms; litany; Vigils of the Dead; commemorations of saints; Stabat Mater.
    Decoration: Includes historiated and other initials; decorative borders; 12 small double miniatures with the calendar showing the appropriate labours for each month with signs of the zodiac and 26 large miniatures. The subjects of the small miniatures are: January - feasting; February - digging; March - pruning vines; April - going on pilgrimage; May - lovers courting; June - scything; July - reaping; August - sowing; September - gathering acorns; October - treading grapes; November - stoking a fire; December - killing a pig. The large miniatures depict St John on Patmos, St Luke, St Matthew, St Mark, Virgin and Child with attendant angels, Virgin and Child with attendant angels, Annunciation, Visitation, Nativity, Annunciation to the Shepherds, Adoration of the Magi, Presentation in the Temple, Betrayal of Christ, Christ before Caiaphas, Crowning with thorns, Carrying the Cross, Pentecost, David and Goliath, St Sebastian, St John the Baptist, St John the Evangelist, St Catherine, St Lawrence, St Barbara, Pieta - Stabat Mater.
