  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Houlton Harries Voss was born in Swansea, South Wales in 1828. He is listed in the 1851 United Kingdom Census Returns as a lodger of John Gulland (Engineer - erector), at 10 Green Lane, on the western edge of James Nasymth's Bridgewater factory in Manchester. Voss is described in the Census as a "Mechanical Engineer" and it is likely that he was an employee of James Nasymth. -- Curator of Pictures, State Library of NSW, 2002
  • Scope and Content
    Includes designs for Albert Pilling & Huddersfield weaving shed, W. Fairburn fire proof mill, J. Nasmyth high pressure double cylinder upright engine, J. Nasmyth steam hammer (front view & cross section), locomotive engine by Sharp Brother & Co., Stephenson's Engine, Whitworth's screwing lathe, bar cutting machine, bulls beam, cranes, drilling machine, fly wheels, horizontal and pumping engines, hydraulic pump, noiseless fan, punching and shearing machine, and wall drill.
