ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Reverend Henry Dashwood Sealy-Vidal was born in Devonshire in 1854 and came to Australia in about 1887. He was a canon at Ballarat, 1887-88 and Liverpool, 1889-91. He spent from 1894 until his death in 1905 within the Diocese of Bathurst firstly as Minister at Guyong, 1894-98 and then as Minister at Rylstone, 1898-1902 and Minister at Carcoar, 1902-05.
Scope and Content
Four sketches written by Rev. Sealy-Vidal based on his own experiences as a clergyman living in rural New South Wales. (A transcription is included).
1. 'Australian Bush Scenes - Flotsam Jetsam'. Deals with itinerant workers known as swagmen or men 'on the wallaby'
2. 'Sketches of Australian Life I by V.S.D.'. Deals with the daily lives of of farmers on small holdings.
3. 'Sketches of Australian Life II by V.S.D.'. Deals with drought, the lack of religious instruction and other difficulties faced by farmers as well as the ways in which they amuse themselves.
4. 'Sketches of Australian Life III. Some Typical Bush Houses'.
