Phillip Parker King (1791-1856) was the son of Governor Philip Gidley King. He surveyed the Australian coast from 1817 to 1822 in the cutter Mermaid and the Bathurst. - Scope and ContentAutograph letter, signed, to J.W. Croker, secretary to the Admiralty, in which Phillip Parker King advises of his arrival in Sydney and the preparations for his survey of the Australian coast. He reports the arrival of the Mermaid from India and his hopes that Lachlan Macquarie will purchase the ship for his survey. King also includes particulars of John Oxley's discoveries on his expedition to ascertain the mouth of the Lachlan and Macquarie rivers.
