    Appears to be an enlarged copy photograph overpainted in pastel, possibly the work of J. Hubert Newman, whose portraits were coloured by his brother E. O. Newman in the 1870s. Reference: Dictionary of Australian Artists / Joan Kerr (1992).
    Attributed to E. O. Newman after comparison with ML 788 which is signed "E.O.N."
    This portrait is a copy of an original hand-tinted ambrotype of Caroline Lawson, ca. 1865, in oval pinchbeck frame and leather case. Location Number: MIN 135 Mitchell Library.
