  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Ruby Langford Ginibi (1934-2011) is an award-winning Aboriginal author and an elder of the Bundjalung people of northern NSW. She was born on a mission in the Northern NSW town of Coraki. After being abandoned by her mother at the age of six, she moved to Sydney at the age of fifteen.

    She first began writing in 1984 and is the author of four books and numerous essays and articles. She received several awards for her writings including Honourary Doctorate from the La Trobe University 1998 and Southern Cross University 2010. Her books ‘Real Deadly’, ‘My Bundjalung People’ and ‘Haunted by the Past’ won numerous literary awards. She was most famous for her novel ‘Don’t Take Your Love to Town’, which explored the racism she experienced and her children’s dealings with the criminal justice system.
